Draft Monumental Core Streetscape Design Guidelines Public Meeting (with Q&A)

Coordinated streetscape guidance is important for unifying the character and function of streets within the National Mall and vicinity (Washington DC’s downtown monumental core). On Wednesday, March 23, 2022 NCPC staff shared The Draft Monumental Core Streetscape Design Guidelines at an online public meeting. Public input received during the comment period will inform refinements to the draft guidelines. The Streetscape Design Guidelines were developed among an Interagency Working Group of 11 federal and District agencies that have jurisdictions in this area along with subject matter experts such as arborists, environmental engineers, landscape architects, and lighting designers. Staff completed work on the Vertical and Surface Elements and will advance the Small-Scale Element Guidelines for items such as benches and garbage receptacles during 2022. When complete, the Streetscape Guide and Manual will be used by agencies and applicants use during streetscape planning, design, and construction to assist the design, review, and implementation of new streetscape projects and improvements.
