NCPC to Conduct Online Commission Meetings through Early 2022

As NCPC pivoted to online meetings last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we learned valuable lessons in how to adapt our procedures, exercise patience during the transition to a new format, and respond to both expected and unforeseen challenges (see the button below).

This fall, NCPC will start renovations of its offices and the Commission Chambers. As a result of these upcoming renovations, and as we continue to monitor health guidance, NCPC will continue to conduct online Commission meetings until construction is complete, which is expected to be in early spring 2022. We are well prepared to do so, thanks to our experience over the past year and timely transition to digital submissions of project applications and meeting materials.

Once our office reopens, we anticipate applying a hybrid meeting format that incorporates online participation with in-person proceedings. This new format will present further opportunities for members of the public to engage with the Commission and provide testimony. While online participation facilitates more access to Commission meetings, we are also mindful of integrating new digital approaches in ways that does not exclude people due to lack of access to technology or training.

Over the next several months, we will conduct research and discuss with the Commission opportunities and challenges associated with using a hybrid format. We are also reaching out to regional commissions and national organizations to explore best practices for combining in-person and remote participation. We are confident that our lessons learned will serve us well, and we look forward to seeing you in person in 2022!
