About the Initiative

NCPC’s Safe and Beautiful Initiative includes coordinated beautification projects and implementation strategies that support President Trump’s Executive Order 14252: Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful. These projects will create safer, greener, and more beautiful destinations for Washington, DC’s visitors and residents.

Streetscape Beautification

NCPC is collaborating with federal agencies, the District of Columbia, and Business Improvement Districts to beautify Washington’s highly visible corridors and gateways. 

Pennsylvania Avenue Initiative

NCPC is developing a blueprint to revitalize Pennsylvania Avenue as an iconic destination and symbol of American excellence.

More Information

In the near term, the goal of this initiative is to focus on opportunities presented by America’s 250th celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, as well as the NFL Draft to be hosted by the city in spring 2027. In the long term, the initiative will focus on rebuilding Pennsylvania Avenue as a beautiful venue and creating a framework for a new destination in Southwest Washington, south of the National Mall.

Union Station Lighting Upgrades

The National Capital Planning Commission is the federal government's planning agency for the National Capital Region.

The 12-member Commission meets monthly to adopt, approve, or provide advice on plans and projects that impact the nation's capital and surrounding areas.
