Overview

Public Meeting
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 (Ward 5) to discuss the Arboretum Bridge and Trail Project. DDOT will present design concepts and gather comments from the community.

Another meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Department of Employment Services, 4058 Minnesota Avenue, NE.

Project Overview
The Arboretum Bridge and Trail Project is a key route being designed as part of the Anacostia River Trail (ART) network, which will be 28-miles long when fully developed. It will provide the missing connection between the Anacostia waterfront and the U.S. National Arboretum, which hosts more than 500,000 annual visitors. The pedestrian and bicyclist crossing will also be ADA compliant. The project will improve access for all users including pedestrians, bicyclists, kayakers, canoers, rowers, fishers and wildlife observers.

The project is situated on National Park Service lands and upon completion will create a connection between the Arboretum and Kenilworth Park North, and adjacent neighborhoods including Mayfair, Kenilworth-Parkside and River Terrace. Slated to be completed in 2021, this project will improve mobility along the Anacostia River and connect visitors and residents to the District’s scenic natural environment.

The Arboretum Bridge and Trail Project stretches from the tidal basin to the District’s northeast border with Maryland, the ART connects 16 waterfront neighborhoods to the Anacostia River, Southwest Waterfront, Nationals Park, Washington Navy Yard, RFK Stadium, National Arboretum, and other popular destinations.

NCPC will review the project at a later date.
