Section 106 Meeting: MLK Library

3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Location

National Capital Planning Commission
401 9th Street, NW

Overview

The National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), in cooperation with District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL), invite you to attend a Section 106 consultation meeting for the proposed rehabilitation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm.

Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act requires that NCPC consider the effects the proposed project would have on historic properties. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a recognized master of Modern architecture, reflects the International Style and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites. NCPC determined through the consultation process that rehabilitation of the library would cause adverse effects on the historic building. As a result, NCPC and DCPL propose to sign a Memorandum of Agreement which will identify measures to minimize and mitigate the adverse effects.

August 24 Section 106 consultation meeting agenda:

  • Review and discuss comments received from consulting parties on the May 2016 email update.
  • Review the draft Memorandum of Agreement.

No RSVP is necessary to attend.
