The Smithsonian Institution is revitalizing what is called the Historic Core. The project includes improvements to the Smithsonian Institution Building. Other major components include new underground facilities, new accessibility improvements, garden rehabilitation and new perimeter security. This project is one that was identified as part of the South Mall Campus Master Plan, approved by NCPC in 2018. The project is being reviewed in two phases.
