March Meeting RecapNCPC approved preliminary and final building plans for Washington Union Station Lighting upgrades which will improve visibility and safety. Commissioners appreciated the applicant’s responsiveness to previous feedback and supported the proposed lighting of the station’s barrel vault. NCPC provided comments on the Glen Echo Management Plan that addresses demand for more arts and cultural programming space in the 0.9-acre park. The draft plan proposes to restore some development that existed when the park was an amusement park and includes a new pedestrian connection to the Clara Barton Historic Site. The Commission also provided comments on the Olney Support Center Area Development Plan which provides a framework for future projects, including a battery testing facility and access roads. NCPC supported the Navy’s decision to focus development near the entrance and reuse existing parking and facilities. Lastly, NCPC heard a presentation on preliminary and final site and building plans for the East Wing Modernization Project. Commissioners heard testimony from the public and will deliberate and vote on the project at NCPC’s Thursday, April 2 meeting. No additional public testimony will be heard or comments accepted. |
