Executive Director Acosta receives award from COG Executive Director Clark Mercer.

NCPC’s Marcel Acosta Receives Regional Leadership Award

NCPC Executive Director Marcel Acosta received the Ronald F. Kirby Award for Collaborative Leadership from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG). COG Executive Director Clark Mercer presented him with the award at COG’s annual membership and awards meeting on December 11, 2024 at DC Water’s headquarters.

The award recognized Mr. Acosta’s long-standing commitment to foster collaboration and align and advance federal and regional interests in the National Capital Region. This includes NCPC's and COG’s more recent collaborations to address the federal government’s changing footprint and evolving return to work strategies; find long term solutions to support multimodal transportation; as well as earlier efforts to address security needs and the impacts of the Base Realignment and Closure actions. Throughout his tenure at NCPC, Mr. Acosta has sought to include local communities in NCPC’s policy and plan initiatives and federal development reviews, and build better connections with federal facilities and leaders. He served for five years as a federal representative on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Board of Directors, advocating for transit as a critical component for a thriving region.

In accepting the award, Mr. Acosta noted, “Through partnerships and coordination with COG, with WMATA, and with our federal partners and local jurisdictions, we’ve been able to build on our strengths and find thoughtful ways to address challenges. Together, we can continue to build a better region.”
