 | October Meeting Recap NCPC approved final site and building plans for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing Currency Production Facility in Beltsville, MD. Commissioners appreciated the improvements made in response to earlier reviews, including an improved employee parking ratio, reduction of vehicle emissions by 27%, and increased tree canopy. Construction of the new facility will begin later in 2023. The Commission provided comments on the draft Pentagon Reservation master plan update for the Arlington, Virginia campus. Commissioners supported the update’s goals to improve security, environmental sustainability, and multi-modal access. They encouraged additional efforts to address the history of minority communities displaced by the initial construction, enhanced green space, and consideration of affordable housing opportunities on any future excess land. | |
Public Comment on Bezos Learning Center NCPC invites the public to provide scoping comments for the proposed Construct Integrated Bezos Learning Center project, as part of the National Environmental Policy Act process. As an addition to the National Air and Space Museum, the new facility will serve as an education center, with a focus on under-resourced communities in Washington, DC. The Smithsonian Institution and NCPC will host a public scoping meeting on November 1, 2023 and a public site tour on November 6, 2023. | |
Expanding America’s Stories on the National Mall Check out NCPC’s recap of the historic Beyond Granite: Pulling Together exhibition.
