June Meeting RecapNCPC provided comments on concept plans for a New Monumental Arch located in Memorial Circle at the west terminus of Arlington Memorial Bridge. For the next review stage, the Commission requested a transportation study that identifies road network impacts and evaluates pedestrian access, and recommended that the applicant work with the Federal Highway Administration and other appropriate agencies regarding proposed surface transportation network changes. The Commission also requested a justification of the proposed 250-foot height and that the applicant coordinate with the Federal Aviation Administration.
NCPC provided feedback on the Civil War Defenses of Washington General Management Plan. The defenses, also known as Fort Circle Parks, include 17 fort sites across 1,315 acres in Washington, Maryland, and Virginia. The plan updates management zones and elements of the 2004 plan to meet current and future needs. Commissioners supported the applicant’s goal to balance the protection of cultural and natural resources while expanding community uses. |
