February Meeting RecapNCPC provided comments on concept plans for the proposed new 65,000-seat stadium for the Washington Commanders on the site of the old Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. Commissioners praised the design’s celebration of Washington as a monumental city. They requested additional information on views and lighting, as well as designs for the parking decks. The Commission heard two information presentations. The first was on the Pennsylvania Avenue Initiative, a multi-federal and District agency effort to reinvigorate the Avenue between the White House and U.S. Capitol. NCPC staff aims to submit the new Pennsylvania Avenue Plan for concept review in early spring. In the second presentation, the National Park Service briefed the Commission on the Great Falls Area Maryland Development Concept Plan, which covers the most popular area of the park with five million annual visitors. The plan incorporates several strategies, including formalizing river and canal access points, providing clear signage, and improving circulation and parking. |
