April Meeting Recap

NCPC approved preliminary and final site building plans for the East Wing Modernization project, which includes a permanent event space within White House grounds. Commissioners heard the presentation and public testimony at the March 5 meeting and deliberated in April to allow for time to review public comments.  
 
NCPC approved preliminary site and building plans for the New Stadium at RFK Campus that focuses on the 30-acre Stadium District, one of five districts in the entire master plan. Commissioners encouraged the applicant to continue refining entries that open to surrounding neighborhoods and requested additional information about lighting and exterior graphics.
 
The Commission provided comments on the George Washington Memorial Parkway Vista Management Plan for 15 historic vistas along a 2.65-mile stretch of the parkway. Commissioners supported the plan’s goals and requested information about the level of maintenance needed and number of visitors for the next review. 
 
NCPC also provided comments on concept plans for a White House Visitor Screening Facility that will replace temporary trailers and tents and provide a permanent solution for ensuring the safety of visitors. Commissioners requested that the U.S. Secret Service work with NCPC early in its process to design a more permanent perimeter security for the entire complex.
 
The Commission approved preliminary site and building plans for the National Zoological Park Construct New Arabian Leopard Habitat, which call for a new exhibit, care facility, and viewing areas.
