July Meeting Recap

NCPC provided feedback on the revised concept Poplar Point Master Plan, which provides an updated vision for redeveloping the 110-acre site in Southeast Washington. Commissioners were enthusiastic about how the plan’s preferred alternative addressed their previous comments and encouraged continued community outreach.

The Commission approved final site and building plans for the National Air and Space Museum Construct Integrated Bezos Learning Center, an 80,000 square foot addition on the museum’s east end. Commissioners praised the exciting final design and the changes that addressed prior concerns, including lighting impacts on surrounding sites, wayfinding, and stormwater management plans.

NCPC approved preliminary building plans for improvements to the Capital One Arena that will allow the arena to better blend in with its surroundings and serve as a catalyst for future neighborhood enhancements. Commissioners commended the applicant’s response to previous feedback.

NCPC staff and National Park Service consultants updated Commissioners on the National Mall and Memorial Parks Telecommunications Infrastructure Plan, which will provide a framework for expanding cell phone coverage and capacity on the Mall.
