 | July Meeting RecapNCPC provided feedback on the revised concept Poplar Point Master Plan, which provides an updated vision for redeveloping the 110-acre site in Southeast Washington. Commissioners were enthusiastic about how the plan’s preferred alternative addressed their previous comments and encouraged continued community outreach.
The Commission approved final site and building plans for the National Air and Space Museum Construct Integrated Bezos Learning Center, an 80,000 square foot addition on the museum’s east end. Commissioners praised the exciting final design and the changes that addressed prior concerns, including lighting impacts on surrounding sites, wayfinding, and stormwater management plans.
NCPC approved preliminary building plans for improvements to the Capital One Arena that will allow the arena to better blend in with its surroundings and serve as a catalyst for future neighborhood enhancements. Commissioners commended the applicant’s response to previous feedback.
NCPC staff and National Park Service consultants updated Commissioners on the National Mall and Memorial Parks Telecommunications Infrastructure Plan, which will provide a framework for expanding cell phone coverage and capacity on the Mall. | |
NCPC Welcomes Chair William Scharf and New CommissionersOn July 9, President Donald J. Trump appointed William Scharf (At-Large) as NCPC Chair. President Trump also appointed Commissioner Michael James Blair, representing Virginia, and Commissioner Stuart Levenbach, representing Maryland. NCPC also welcomes Robert G. Salesses, Regina F. Meiners, and Paul J. Schaefer as alternate Commissioners for the Secretary of Defense and Christina Salazar and William Henderson as alternate Commissioners for the Chairman of the Senate's Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. | |
NCPC Receives Federal Planning AwardThe American Planning Association’s Federal Planning Division presented NCPC, in partnership with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, the Outstanding Technical Planning Project Award for the Workplace Scenario Planning Study, which helps policymakers better understand the implications of federal telework on the region. | |
