February Meeting Recap

NCPC approved preliminary and final site development plans for the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail Extension and National Arboretum Access Bridge, a new multi-use bridge that will carry the trail over the river. Commissioners heard testimony from 17 people before expressing their support for the improved pedestrian and bicycle access and connectivity across the river.

The Commission approved preliminary building plans for the William Howard Taft Bridge Pedestrian Railing Improvements. Commissioners reiterated their support for the project’s objective to enhance pedestrian safety and deter future suicide attempts at the span that carries Connecticut Avenue over Rock Creek Park.

NCPC provided comments on concept plans for the St. Elizabeths West Campus Gate 1 Garage and Site Development. The plans include a four-story underground garage with a planted meadow and security pavilion on its roof. Commissioners commented favorably on how the garage would be incorporated into the landscape.
