November Meeting Recap

NCPC provided input on the draft Washington Navy Yard Southeast Corner Master Plan, which includes mixed-use development on 15 acres outside the Navy Yard’s secure perimeter.  The Commission supported the overall approach, improvement of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, and preservation of public access. They required the Navy and private developer to work with Building Bridges Across the River a local non-profit organization to evaluate potential viewshed impacts.

NCPC commented on an update to the District of Columbia’s Small Cell Infrastructure Guidelines for standalone poles. Commissioners supported having the same pole design for all cellphone carriers and were very complimentary of the District Department of Transportation’s work in developing the design.

The Commission provided comments on concept plans for pedestrian rail improvements to the William Howard Taft Bridge to enhance safety and deter potential suicide attempts. Commissioners expressed their support for these efforts and recommended further development of some of the proposed options.
