July Meeting Recap

NCPC provided feedback on the proposed National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial Visitor Education Center located in Arlington National Cemetery. Commissioners noted improvements in the site layout and design and requested coordination with other agencies to ensure that access to the pathway prioritizes pedestrian safety.

The Commission supported the objectives of the University of the District of Columbia Van Ness Campus Master Plan, which seeks to modernize campus facilities to meet future needs. Commissioners recommended that the final plan be updated to include the construction of a new District of Columbia Archives Building. NCPC also provided comments on the concept plans for the new building, noting that it was an opportunity for collaboration between UDC and the District Department of General Services.

NCPC approved the final Food and Drug Administration Muirkirk Road Campus Master Plan. Commissioners commended its approach to green building and that the design eliminated negative wetland impacts.

NCPC staff presented an update on plans for the Washington Union Station Expansion Project, which seeks to meet anticipated increases in rail traffic. The agency will send comments on the Federal Railroad Administration’s draft environmental impact statement.
