 | April Meeting RecapNCPC provided feedback on sites for two proposed memorials in Washington, DC: the Fallen Journalists Memorial (site options shown above) and the Global War on Terrorism Memorial. The Commission supported advancing two sites for each memorial for further consideration and requested that the sponsors develop design concepts for any sites advanced for further evaluation. While Commissioners approved preliminary site and building plans for a new Bureau of Engraving and Printing Currency Production Facility in Beltsville, Maryland, they strongly noted the need for equitable transportation options, resolution of wastewater treatment issues, and maximization of trees and vegetation usage to mitigate development that should be addressed in the next submission. NCPC commented on concept plans for new Unaccompanied Enlisted Personnel Barracks at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Ft. Myer, Virginia. Commissioners found the proposed barracks’ design lacking in quality and recommended that the applicant refine the building’s overall design, scale, and mass to respect and enhance the overall Fort Myer Historic District. They requested that the next submission include more information on the need for a proposed adjacent parking lot. | |
