President Biden Appoints Two New Commissioners

NCPC is excited to announce the appointment of Elizabeth M. Hewlett representing Maryland and Bryan Clark Green representing Virginia. Ms. Hewlett is an attorney and public servant who recently completed her tenure as chair of the Prince George’s County Planning Board and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Mr. Green is the executive director of the Tidewater and Big Bend Foundation where he leads the restoration, furnishing, and interpretation of a series of landmark buildings and landscapes in New Kent County, Virginia.

“Ms. Hewlett and Mr. Green bring stellar planning and design expertise, along with a deep understanding of the region, to their new roles,” said NCPC Chair Elizabeth A. “Beth” White. “We are delighted to have them join the Commission and look forward to working with them.”

December Meeting Recap

NCPC approved final site development plans for the National Desert Shield and Desert Storm Memorial. Commissioners praised the memorial’s landscape-oriented approach and material selections. NCPC also provided comments on the draft master plan for the James J. Rowley Training Center for Secret Service employees. Commissioners commended the reduction of parking spaces and encouraged more sustainable energy features.
