September Meeting Recap NCPC approved final site and building plans for the renovation and expansion of the Federal Reserve Board’s headquarters building and an addition to its East Building, both located on Constitution Avenue, NW. Commissioners praised the Board for engaging its partners throughout the process and noted that the contemporary expansions complemented the existing historic architecture well.
The Commission provided feedback on the Food and Drug Administration’s Muirkirk Road Campus draft master plan, which would consolidate approximately 1,500 employees at the campus in Laurel, Maryland. Commissioners recommended an unobstructed view of the campus’s natural landscape from the main entrance and requested that employee parking be in structured garages.
Commissioners provided input on a draft master plan for the Fort Belvoir North Area in Springfield, Virginia, home to the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency headquarters and support facilities. They did not support designating forested areas as suitable for development and requested that the applicant prioritize development on previously disturbed land, incorporate higher density development, and provide more information on parking needs.
NCPC staff presented a proposed approach on how the agency will advance equity in its operations and policy-making processes in response to an Executive Order charging the federal government with identifying and eliminating barriers to equity. The approach reflects the agency's commitment to promoting equity and recognition that it can do more. Commissioners expressed their full support for these efforts. |
