| July Meeting RecapWashington’s Union Station is a major transportation center in the city and region that the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) plans to expand to meet anticipated increases in rail traffic. After hearing an update on the proposal, Commissioners expressed strong concerns with FRA’s proposed level of parking, given that local stakeholders recommended substantially less.
The adopted Comprehensive Plan’s Transportation Element includes several updates that affect federal facilities and how the Commission will review future proposals. These include a revised parking space to employee ratio in Washington’s central core, a standardized process that allows deviations from parking ratios for proposed projects; and a new internal monitoring process to assess Transportation Demand Management performance.
The Commission released for public comment proposed updates to the Comprehensive Plan’s tree replacement policies and updates to the agency’s Antenna Submission Guidelines. The public can comment on these proposed changes at two online meetings (see details below) and online through September 14.
Other projects on the agenda included the proposed second Master Plan Amendment for the Department of Homeland Security Headquarters Consolidation and a temporary Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias facility at the National Institutes of Health.
Public Comments AcceptedMembers of the public can provide feedback on three projects: NCPC’s proposed updates to the agency’s Tree Replacement Policy and Antenna Submission Guidelines (please note two public meetings listed below), and the Federal Railroad Administration’s draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed expansion of Washington’s Union Station.
