Description
(1757-1834) French nobleman who petitioned the French National Assembly for assistance for the Americans during the American Revolution. Sailed to America to assist colonists and brought a number of French soldiers (including Pierre L'Enfant). Statue was in part a gesture to reestablish French-American relations after Spanish-American War.
