Description
(1929-1968) American clergyman, activist, prominent leader in the Civil Rights movement. Left a significant legacy, including progress on civil rights and is widely considered a human rights icon. Led 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957, serving as its first president. Led the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. He was assassinated in 1968.
