From Authorizing Law: "to honor Japanese American patriotism in World War II." According to the National Japanese American Memorial Foundation (NJAMF), the Mission is to "tell our story of service and sacrifice in protecting the Constitutional rights of all Americans." According to the NJAMF, the Memorial serves as a reminder of the loyalty and patriotism of Japanese American veterans during the War and as an apology on behalf of the United States for the unlawful internment of Japanese Americans.
