Thumbnail photo of Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) by NCPC Staff

Description

From Authorizing Law: "Authorizing...a memorial to the Marine Corps dead of all wars." Design is based on the famous Rosenthal photograph of a small group of Marines raising the American Flag during battle at Iwo Jima. While the statue depicts one of the most famous incidents of World War II, the memorial is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in the defense of the United States since 1775.
