Description
According to Goode, this statue was the first public monument to Lincoln and Washingtonians began to raise funds for it immediately after the assassination. Statue shows Lincoln as an attorney and a statesman. (1809 – 1865) 16th U.S. President; successfully led country through its greatest internal crisis, the American Civil War, preserving the Union and ending slavery.
