Description
(1814-1862) US Army officer, notably in the Mexican-American War and American Civil War where he was killed in battle during the Second Battle of Bull Run. One legacy that resulted from his death: "Kearney's Cross" was presented to soldiers who demonstrated exceptional valor. This medal evolved to the Medal of Honor.
