Description
(1777-1834) Central American statesman, lawyer, and newspaper reporter who called for the unification of Central America under a single legislative body; served in the Guatemalan legislature and was elected president. Sought cooperation and unity among nations. According to Goode, it was commissioned to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the inter-American system designed to promote peace within the Western Hemisphere and to encourage trade and commerce among member nations.
