To help develop the SW Ecodistrict Plan, the Task Force provided opportunities at each step of the planning process for community stakeholders and members of the public to provide feedback. Several community meetings were held in Southwest Washington to allow for consultation with the public in accordance with the requirements for public scoping meetings of the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act. Feedback was also provided through e-mails, letters, and web-based media.

Second Public Scoping Meeting: Existing Conditions

February 17, 2011, U.S. Department of Agriculture Whitten Building

Meeting Purpose: To identify the most pressing concerns and challenges that the community believes should be addressed by the SW Ecodistrict initiative. The public had the opportunity to review a comprehensive inventory of the land use, transportation, environmental, cultural, and social conditions that presently characterizes the study area presently. This inventory also included an initial assessment of the energy, waste and water usage of the federal buildings in the study area.

Third Public Scoping Meeting: Livability, Mobility and Sustainability Concepts

Meeting Purpose: To obtain input on the future character of the SW Ecodistrict as a sustainable and livable community. The public was asked to provide input on several questions. What activities, amenities, and connections would improve existing and new streets? What are the benefits and impacts if new streets like Maryland Avenue, SW and F Street, SW are established?

Fourth Public Scoping Meeting: Revitalization Scenarios

Meeting Purpose: To share and obtain public input on the land use, urban design, and sustainability framework for a range of revitalization scenarios for the SW Ecodistrict.
