Master Plan for Judiciary Square Approved
(File Number MP24)

The Commission approved a new master plan for Judiciary Square, including an amendment which addresses issues that were unresolved when the Commission previously reviewed the project in May 2005. The master plan generally addresses building construction projects planned for the D.C. Courts as well as concepts for open space landscapes, perimeter security, traffic, parking, and street edge treatments. The D.C. Courts’ amendment focuses on the relocation of the south curb line of E Street between 4th and 5th Streets; the provision of two lay-bys along E Street, between 4th and 5th Streets; the provision of two bus loading spaces along 5th Street; a revised design for 4th Street loading docks; and planned agreements between the D.C. Courts and the National Law Enforcement Museum.

Zoning Modification Allows for Ballpark Use in Southeast
(File Number Z.C. 05-08)

The D.C. Zoning Commission proposes to modify the Capitol Gateway Overlay District in Southeast Washington to define “ballpark” and to make it an allowable use in that area. The amendment also establishes a review process and design guidelines for a ballpark and associated uses. The Commission determined that the amendment would not adversely affect federal interests. In its comments to the D.C. Zoning Commission, NCPC made several recommendations relating to retail, stadium lighting, building height, signage, and parking.
