| Description of Project The Smithsonian Institution proposes to construct a new window at level 1 on the west façade of the Museum of American History in order to provide daylight to the Museum’s largest public program space. The proposal also includes the relocation of the Calder stabile, "Gwenfritz," to its original location and the re-establishment of the reflecting pool that once surrounded the stabile. |

| Historic Preservation (section 106) Consultation Process The Smithsonian and the DC State Historic Preservation Officer have determined that the proposed new window would have an adverse effect on the character of the museum building and have developed a Memorandum of Agreement for mitigation that calls for the re-establishment of the Calder stabile and reflecting pool to their original location. |
