Height Act Study
(File number 6886)

The National Capital Planning Commission authorized release of a draft federal interest report and findings on potential changes to the 1910 federal act regulating building heights in Washington, DC for a 30-day public comment period that runs through October 15, 2013.

In response to a Congressional request, over the last year NCPC and the District of Columbia have studied the extent to which the federal Height Act continues to serve both the federal and District government interests and explored the impact of potential strategic changes.

The public can comment in several ways. A special Commission meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 2 at 3:30 pm to hear public comments. Written comments may also be submitted by mail or online at until October 15, 2013.

In addition, a public information session will be held on Wednesday, September 25 starting at 6:30 pm where staff will recap the study and present the draft report.

Following the close of the public comment period, the Commission will consider this draft federal interest report, public comments, various technical studies, and any additional information provided by the District of Columbia in developing their final recommendations on building heights to Congress. The Commission will take a final vote on the recommendations at their November 7, 2013 meeting.

The draft federal interest report and findings, the accompanying staff report, and the detailed public outreach schedule are available online at
