D.C. Streetcar Barn Training Center
(File number 7540)
The National Capital Planning Commission approved preliminary site and building plans for a D.C. Streetcar Barn and Training Center to be located at the intersection of Benning Road and 26th Street, NE. The 14,500 square-foot streetcar barn will service the 2.5-mile H Street/Benning Road line that will run from Union Station to the Anacostia River. This line, which eventually will be extended west to the Georgetown waterfront and east to Minnesota Avenue, is part of a planned 22-mile streetcar system being implemented by the District of Columbia.
The project includes a structure containing a streetcar maintenance and wash area, as well as ancillary office, meeting, and training spaces. The project also includes a 15-streetcar storage yard, power substation, wash track, and 25-car parking lot. The Commission is expected to review final site and building plans in 2014.
