Dunbar Senior High School – School Building Replacement
(File number 7233)

The National Capital Planning Commission approved preliminary and final site and building plans submitted by the District of Columbia Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization to build a new 264,000 gross square foot Dunbar Senior High School. The school will accommodate up to 1,110 students and approximately 150 faculty and staff.

The new high school will have two wings. The first will be a four-story academic wing. The second, a three-story administrative wing, will have a gym, theater, pool, and media center. The new facility’s site placement will allow for the future reopening of O Street, NW between 1st Street, NW and 3rd Street, NW. The existing six-story building was constructed in 1977 and replaced the original Dunbar High School built in 1917.
