Extending the Legacy Plan

The National Capital Planning Commission built upon Washington’s 200 years of planning history with Extending the Legacy: Planning America’s Capital for the 21st Century. A visionary plan for the next 50 to 100 years, Legacy redefines the monumental core, reclaims the city’s waterfront, and creates opportunities for development in all quadrants of the city. It provides bold proposals for transit, revitalization, open space, and commemoration, and it restores the center of the city back to the U.S. Capitol, where L’Enfant intended it to be.
